Fate & Fortune – Uncharted 4 Story Trailer

Screen 3

Sony just released a story trailer for Uncharted 4 in anticipation of its late April release.

While much can be said about the bombast and action, two things stand out in the trailer: fate and fortune.

It seems to be traditional pulp affair, with Nathan Drake’s now quiet life being interrupted by the convenient plot of a long lost older brother appearing to entice Nathan into one last adventure.  You know, the adventure they’ve worked for their entire life.

[Edit: Sony made the old video private due to the implications of Naughty Dog using Assassin’s Creed Blag Flag artwork in its trailer.  It’s now been updated]

More interestingly, dialogue between Nathan and Sam – voiced by Nolan North and Troy Baker, two Naughty Dog alumni who are in just about everything these days – revolves around fate and choices.  That last one is important given the series will now have dialogue options, hinting to more of an emphasis on choice than previously assumed.  And with talk of this being Drake’s last fling with adventure, maybe you’ll be able to influence the outcome of Drake’s narrative this time around, although that’s probably wishful thinking.

Aside from this, we’re given a glimpse of Nathan and Sam in their youth and a quick flash of Drake swimming in what seems to be a much more extensive underwater section than previously featured in the series.

Underwater sections! Everyone loves underwater sections! Though to be fair, the coral does look pretty

It’s all pretty exciting stuff, with a colourful cast of characters and plenty of drama tearing that boyish but chiselled face of Nate’s between his old and new life.

Adventure comes calling on 26th April.
